What is Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates is a type of Pilates exercise that uses a specialized piece of equipment called a Reformer. This equipment consists of a bed-like frame with a movable carriage, adjustable springs for resistance, and various straps and bars to support different exercises. The Reformer provides a unique way to perform Pilates movements with added resistance and assistance, allowing for a more varied and challenging workout compared to traditional mat Pilates. It also provides invaluable assistance for individuals who require added support especially when recovering from injuries.

The Reformer has a platform that slides back and forth within a frame. The resistance is controlled by adjusting the springs, which can be made tighter or looser depending on the desired difficulty of the exercise.

Like all forms of Pilates, Reformer Pilates emphasizes core strength, stability, and flexibility. It helps improve posture, balance, and muscle tone.

Exercises on the Reformer target all areas of the body, including the legs, arms, and back, with a focus on controlled movements. Some common exercises include footwork, leg circles, and the "roll-up," among many others.

Because of its flexibility and adaptability, Reformer Pilates is suitable for people of all fitness levels—from beginners to advanced practitioners—and can be tailored to individual needs, such as rehabilitation or athletic conditioning.

Here at My Pilates House you will be expertly led through every single session ensuring you are supported and guided so you get the best out of your classes.
What is Tower & Mat Pilates?
The Tower and Mat consists of a vertical frame on one end of the reformer which turns into a non moving bed. Spring attachments suspend from the tower along with a push through bar and roll down bar. Foot and hand loops are attached to the springs for exercises. All exercises using the Tower and Mat combo create a full body workout aligned with the Pilates principles.
The Pilates tower has a larger bed surface and open chain springs that attach from the tower to the body so it feels different to how exercises on the moving carriage feel. Exercises may be sitting, lying on your back or side or front, kneeling.
Both the reformer and tower/mat options provide exceptional tools for Pilates classes. We are extremely proud and lucky to be able to offer both classes providing you with more options. Teachers will at times change up the machines to offer a Tower and Mat class in the studio.
